Different Pulses – Asaf Avidan in Berlin

“Screaming Tornado – Whispering Breeze” – Asaf Avidan played Huxleys Neue Welt in Berlin

Huxleys, Berlin. Some words are used so often that they lose their meaning: “mindblowing,” for example, or “amazing”. But in  rare moments (as you find them in love and art)  the inadequacy of these words becomes truly apparent.

Those lucky enough to see Asaf Avidan and his comrades-in-music at Huxleys Berlin on November 14 may have had just such a moment.

Even those, like us, who had prepared in advance and were familiar with more material than just the chart topping remix of the Reckoning Song, yes, even those who knew that the 32 year old singer/songwriter is currently one of the  outstanding  talents, were astounded by this concert.

Utilising every fiber of his being – Israeli singer/songwriter Avidan

Asaf Avidan does not sing his songs – he recreates them, plays with them and forces his unique kaleidoscopic voice to cosmic heights and subterranean lows, utilising every fibre of his being. He’s not just a guitar virtuoso, he challenges the strings to breaking point. Together with his musicians and involving the audience he creates an outburst of sound, an unchartered musical atmosphere.

On stage, this “skinny white boy” from Tel Aviv turns into a screaming tornado, sweeping over the audience just to drop to a whispering breeze bidding the audience to silence and leaving them in speechless astonishment. Looking for new words to describe this mindblowing experience we can only point to the title of this, his fifth album – Different Pulses.

Different Pulses will be released in Germany on 23 November 2012.
